I am getting a head start on my Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Turns out it’s a special day for other pets, too. In Chicago, for example, they’ll be celebrating Cinco de Bow Wow on Saturday at Wright-Way Rescue. Billed as a four-legged fiesta, they’ve planned an afternoon of drinks, festive food, raffle prizes, music and a best-dressed pet pageant. Wright-Way is in Wrightwood Tap. In Kansas City, the Great Plains SPCA will host a Cinco de Mayo Chihuahua Parade and try to break a world record for the most dogs in costume during the parade. (My owners would love to get pics of that!) They’ll need 1350 dogs to beat the record held by St Louis. All dog breeds are welcome. The parade will take place at noon at the Barney Allis park downtown. All proceeds from the event go to benefit Great Plains SPCA. Visit
